A Brief Summary of Gymnastic Moms

My girls take gymnastic classes every Monday for 1 hour. I love the place they go to, it's great. The girls that teach them are wonderful with lots of patience! I mean, imagine about 10 little 4 year olds in a gym full of fun stuff to play on & trying to have them follow directions to do things correctly? Wow! Or how about just as many 3 year olds. They deserve awards I say! My girls love it though, and I love watching them and seeing the smiles on their faces.

I am such a people watcher. Have I ever mentioned that? Well, yeah.. I am. People fascinate me with the way they act, talk, think. No, I'm not a stalker! But sometimes it's fun just to sit & watch people. This is especially true at gymnastics. There are all types of Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles there. This is my brief description or perhaps, my point of view on some of them.

*Disclaimer: This is purely for fun, please do not be offended if you happen to fit into one of these categories. Heck, I fit into probably all of them at one time or another. It's just a joke! Besides, this is my blog... if ya don't like it, don't read it!*

The Window Hogger: This is that Mom or Dad that stands at the window the entire hour their child is in the gym watching everything they do leaving no room for another Mom or Dad to take a peek at their own child. Oh no, they have claimed their window and you shall NOT get in the way or even think they are giving it up! They remind me of those seagulls in Finding Nemo.. "mine, mine, mine, mine". Listen, it's great that you want to watch your child, but the rest of us may want to see once in a while too! Stop being a window hogger!

The Waver: This might be the most of annoying of all the parents. They stand at the window, perhaps not as long as the window hogger, but they wave to their child every 5-10 minutes. Really? Do you miss him/her for that hour so much that you need to wave to them to be sure they don't forget who you are? Come on now, sit down, relax, enjoy that hour of peace. I'm sure your little girl won't soon forget who you are.

The Cell Phone Abuser:  Unlike the above two, this parent doesn't even realize they are at gymnastics! They brought their mac, iPhone, calculator, pens, appointment calendar and pretty much anything else that belongs in their home office with them. They pretty much shut out the entire gym while they are there tapping away on the keys, switching from phone to computer to calendar without missing a beat. Are you kidding me? Do you really get THAT much done in an hours time? Besides, someone needs to go push the window hogger out of the way so put down the phone for 5 minutes, buddy!

The Social Butterfly: This Mom (and yes, its mostly women) flutters around the parents waiting room from person to person starting up conversations about anything & everything. "So, how about this weather?" Usually they get a quick response and move on to the next leaving an awkward silence in the room because noone really wants to have a conversation. Look lady, I'm just here to watch my kid, or wave 900 times to little Susie. Why don't you help Mr. Cell Phone Abuser with his appointments?

The "My Kid is the Next Big Star" Parent: Probably my favorite of all the parents. Seriously, this one makes me laugh to myself most nights. You are a combination of all the above my dear friend. You hog a window to watch your little star on the balance beam, you wave everytime they turn their head in your direction, you are on the cell phone calling the local paper so they can do a lead story on your star, and you float around the room telling everyone to watch your child & their greatness convincing all of us that our child just isn't good enough. Yes, you are entertaining & certainly the funniest of all the parents to me. I can't wait to see your child standing on the gold medal platform! {sarcasm}

All in all, these parents are good people and like I said, this is purely for my entertainment. I know all of our little gymnasts will soon be stars bearing gold medals. I can't wait to write about THAT!
